Lorraine Cooper, or Raine as her friends call her, appears to be just an average teenager; hanging out with her best friend, swimming on the swim team at school, and secretly crushing on her best guy friend. Besides that her father’s plane went down and they still haven’t found his body, there is nothing different about Raine than a thousand other teenage girls. That is, until the ultimate temptation rolls into town on a Harley and moves into the house next door.
At first, Torin St. James’ good looks and sarcastic attitude do nothing to impress her; in fact he seems to get on her every nerve. The fact that he seems to be able to read her like a book irks her to no end, and she does her best to avoid him. Nevertheless, as the story develops his smooth talking and mysterious attitude seem to draw her in against her will. Constantly being around to help her whenever she could possibly need it doesn’t hurt either. But, when he saves her life with some sort of magical healing, that’s when Raine realizes that the boy next door is something much more than the average good looking teenage boy.
His so-called friends that show up in town with him intimidate her, offer her cryptic messages, and one of them jealously attacks her. When Torin is forced to save her using the mysterious glowing runes only Raine can see tattooed on these newcomers, the mystery of these superhuman teenagers slowly, and I mean slowly, unravels.
This book was so well written I felt like I was in the story without feeling overwhelmed with details. The writer gives just enough information to tantalize the reader to read on and discover just who, or what, the boy next door really is.
I definitely won’t give away any spoilers, so if you want to know just what Torin St. James is you will have to read it for yourself. However, I will tell you that this isn’t just another vampire book, and if you are like me you will be pleasantly surprised. The end of this book was only the beginning for me, as I can’t wait to start on the next.
